The director of the “Media Focal Center “ Salem Zahran detonated a high caliber bomb when he revealed the fate of millions of dollars spent from the bank's pocket as loans backed by the “Banque du Liban”, which contributed significantly to the current housing crisis.
Zahran revealed in a press interview that a number of politicians are benefiting from very high loans, including former Prime Minister “Najib Miqati”. Zahran also revealed a document showing that Miqati Group received loans from the “Banque du Liban” with a total of 14 million US dollars, which are earmarked for the general public.
It is noteworthy that Miqati holds the ownership of a number of giant companies in excess of US $ 6 billion, so why he extend his hand on low-incomers’ housing loans?
The disclosure of the issue through the media has caused widespread controversy in the country and on social networking sites, pushed Miqati to urge those close to him to move immediately at all levels to withdraw the subject from circulation.
The sources told “Libanon Debate” that Miqati's associates had contacts with parties’ members to pressure Zahran and silenced him. Especially since the latter announced that he was going to the judiciary, but authorities told the callers, what it means: "We have no relationship and let the file go to the judiciary."
In the information, the financial prosecutor Ali Ibrahim contacted the director of the “Media Focal Center”, noting what he revealed to the media, expressing his willingness to walk legally with the file. The two sides agreed to meet early next week, so Zahran provide Ibrahim with the content of what he owns.
According to "Lebanon Debate"’s information there is a large group of politicians who benefit from the loans, which explains the Bank of Lebanon's inability to complete the repayment of loans and the disbursement of the budget allocated in full.
Zahran completed his disclosure of the contents of his document, showing that judges received housing loans with a total of almost 31 million US dollars
